2024 Best Gardens and Commercial Frontage Results
All the gardens, allotments and commercial properties in the Parish were judged by the Flower Show organisers in July. Again, there are certainly a lot of lovely looking gardens, and congratulations to those that won or got into the top tens below. Cups and shields will be awarded at the Flower Show on 24th August, but please do take the opportunity to go on a walk and see the gardens for yourself.
Pilning Winner of Best Garden:
Bridge View, Severn Way, New Passage
A well-tended large garden with a neat lawn and lovely array of containers and hanging baskets, surrounded by established beds, shrubs, roses and hedges. The plants are complemented by different outside seating areas, architectural items, arbour and an active bird table. The garden has won once before, but more than twenty years ago. Congratulations to John and Lesley Luke.
The following gardens were all highly commended:
21, Chessell Avenue - Pretty cottage style garden, nice variety. Lovely perennial plants.
31, Cross Hands Road - Classic rose beds, well-kept lawn, perennial plants & window boxes.
Saefern, New Passage Road - Beautiful flower beds in bloom. variety of plants, ornamental trees, good lawn and sweet peas growing through hedge. 2020 winner.
Lydda, Northwick Road - Neat lawn, colourful perennial/annual borders, well-set rockery.
7, Redwick Road - Cottage garden, hanging baskets, raised borders, trellises, colourful display.
24, Redwick Road - Wildlife garden, devised to give a diverse habitat with containers & beds full of perennial flowers. A lot in a small space.
73, Redwick Road - Colourful cottage garden, established plants, perennials, pots, urns and ornamental trees.
16, The Glebe - Well-presented colourful garden, containers with bedding plants and nice lawn.
31, Wainbridge Crescent - Colourful, very well-tended display of bedding plants. 2021 winner.
Severn Beach Winner of Best Garden:
116, Beach Road
A brilliant example of what can be achieved by gardeners in a short period of time. The owners only took this on 3 years ago with a blank, but weedy and brambly canvas. Now transformed, with a well-kept lawn, and colourful containers of bedding plants and beautiful hanging baskets. But that’s not all, with a shrub border beside the front pavement and a spectacular border alongside the path to the sea front. Congratulations to Sally and Brian Baber.

Plotland, Church Road - Good variety of kerbside planting in flower and colourful. Won 2022.
5, Gorse Cover – Tiny garden, but full of colour, planting up pathway and around picket fence.
11, Rustic Park - Sunflowers, gladioli, sweet peas and annuals planted all around the property.
10, Salthouse Farm - Well-kept, good mix of containers shrubs and architecture. Winner 2019.
24, Salthouse Farm – Good, neat lawn, well-edged, well-tended and colourful flower beds.
34, Salthouse Farm - Good variety and colour, well-kept and immaculate lawn. Winner 2023.
18, Severnwood Gardens – A pleasant wildlife/cottage style garden with a small pond.
42, Station Road - A good variety of plants and annuals packed into a small space.
15, Victoria Crescent - Very colourful begonias in baskets & containers. Rose bed and statues..
Best Commercial Frontage:
Just As You Are Tea Cottage Severn Beach.
Wild flower planting to the front and pleasant herbaceous border to the side. Congratulations to Miriam Street.
